THE WISDOM OF THE PROPHETS –
(Selections from the Fusūs al-Hikam by Ibn ‘Arabi)
The doctrinal work of Ibn ‘Arabi, ‘the greatest master’ imposes itself by its depths and by its synthesis as well as by the incisive form of certain formulations, which refer to the most elevated aspects of Sufism. Among his works the Fustis al-Hikam (`The Wisdom of the Prophets’) is the most celebrated. Modalities of human perfection is the basic issue that are described in terms of specific prophets and specific divine attributes. Twenty-seven chapters which refer to twenty-seven specific divine wisdoms bestowed on twenty seven prophets. These prophets— twenty five of whom correspond to the prophets mentioned in the Qur’an—represent the twenty-seven major prophetic types. This is an excellent translation of selections from the celebrated work.
